Frequently Asked Questions

General

How do I prepare myself for class?
Read our class descriptions to be sure you understand which class you are taking. Wear athletic attire that will allow you to move and stretch comfortably (many male students like to layer briefs under their shorts). You should hydrate before class, but we do not recommend eating more than a light snack before you practice. We don't sell single-use disposable water bottles, but we do have filtered water available for you to refill your own bottle at the studio. Our bathrooms are located outside the studio, a few steps away near the tennis shop - leave enough time to use the restroom and make yourself comfortable on your mat before class. If you take any of our heated classes, please bring a Yogitoes towel (available in our retail shop) or a mat-sized towel from home. Bring your own mat or rent one from us for $2 per class. Leave your worries behind and show up with a positive attitude and an open mind, ready to enjoy our island vibes.

For safety reasons, we do not allow glass water bottles in the studio. We also require students to turn cell phones off and leave them in the check-in area cubbies during class.

Are classes included in the South Seas Island Resort fees?
No. We are an independently owned and operated yoga studio. We offer a variety of class packages. Stop by and we would be happy to help you choose the best option.

Where is Ambu Yoga located?
Our studio is located at South Seas Island Resort, just outside the resort gate. We are in the plaza across from Starbucks, right next to Doc Ford's. Our address is 5400 Plantation Rd., Captiva, FL 33924. For more information, click here

Can my child participate in Ambu Yoga's classes?
Students must be 13 years or older to participate in beginner level classes and 16 years or older to participate in heated classes. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by an adult. Please do not leave children unattended in our check-in area during class. Well-behaved, supervised children are welcome to attend Beach Yoga. Heated Yoga Classes

How hot will the room be during heated classes?
The room will be 95 - 100 degrees F.

What are the benefits of practicing yoga in a warm environment?
Heated yoga classes offer a more intense workout for those who want to develop their flexibility and strength. Hot yoga also detoxifies the body, relieves stress, and increases focus.

Are heated classes good for beginners?
Some heated classes may be appropriate for beginners who enjoy heat. Please refer to our class page for more information about which classes we recommend for students who are new to yoga.

Which class should I take?
Please review our class page to learn more about which classes are appropriate for your level. You are also welcome to stop by and talk to us at the studio.

What should I wear?
Wear athletic attire that will allow you to move and stretch comfortably (many male students like to layer briefs under their shorts). We do not recommend baggy clothing for heated classes. For SUP Yoga, you are welcome to wear regular yoga clothes or swim attire - whatever is most comfortable for you. If you are sensitive to the sun, a rash guard can be useful.

Beach Yoga

How do I sign up for beach yoga?
You must sign up online. For Sunday morning Beach Yoga, new students must register and pay online no later than Saturday night. You do not have to be a resort guest to participate in beach yoga – everyone is welcome.

Will I need a yoga mat?
No, it's best if you use a large towel or blanket. A sandy yoga mat is no fun at all, and it's easier to practice without one on the beach. Also, less to carry to class! Wear yoga clothes and bring sunscreen, water, and a towel to practice on.

Where do we meet for beach yoga?
We meet on the beach at Alison Hagerup Beach Park, which is labeled "South Beach" on South Seas Resort Maps. For GPS, the address is 14790 Captiva Dr., Captiva, FL 33924.

What if it's cold or raining?
The only downside to practicing in nature is that weather can be unpredictable! If it's less than 55 degrees outside or raining, thundering, or lightning, class will be canceled. We will announce class cancellations via our Facebook page.

What if class is canceled, and I've already paid?
In the event of a class cancellation, please contact us to have your drop-in fee applied to a different class. We offer a variety of in-studio classes for all levels! If you are unable to join us at a different time, please get in touch with the studio for a refund.

Are children allowed at Beach Yoga?
Yes! We welcome families to practice with us on the beach. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The class is one hour, so please prepare your child to be focused and to have fun!

SUP Yoga

Will I fall in the water while doing SUP Yoga?
You might, and that's half the fun! SUP Yoga is more playful than your regular practice on land. Be prepared to fall in and have a good time doing it.

Do I have to register for SUP Yoga in advance?
Because we need to arrange the use of necessary equipment for our SUP Yoga classes, participants are required to sign up online or at our studio in advance. No drop-ins are available.

I've never been on a paddleboard before. Can I still take a SUP Yoga class?
If you don't have prior paddleboarding experience, let us know when you make a reservation. We offer a complimentary 15 minute SUP introduction before class. We strongly encourage students to take a beginner's SUP lesson from our partner and paddle sports gurus, Adventure Sea Kayak  mostly because it's fun!

Are the SUP Yoga classes canceled when there's bad weather?
In the case of bad weather, SUP Yoga and Bliss SUP Yoga Adventure classes will be re-scheduled or refunded. Cancellations are at the discretion of the instructor, and we will reach out to you with any related information. If you haven't heard from us and have doubts about the weather, call or text (239) 314-9642 or email info@ambuyoga.com.

What if I signed up, but can't attend?
Please let us know as soon as possible. In order to receive a refund, classes must be canceled with 24 hours notice.
